A rare nasal myiasis in a patient with diabetes mellitus

Background: Nasal myiasis, a type of cavitary is an infestation parasitic insect larvae or eggs in the nasal cavity human body. The risk myiasis increases individuals with immunocompromised such as diabetes mellitus (DM). aim this study was to report rare case patient DM. Case Presentation: A 54-year-old female referred Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya chief complaint spontaneous anterior epistaxis from left nostril for three days. Anterior rhinoscopy revealed narrowed covered excessive bloody discharge and>50 coming out passage. Nasoendoscopy showed ulcerated lesions on floor and lateral wall, destructions osteomeatal complex thick crust, well larva around entering maxillary sinus. Paranasal sinus CT scan no further infection surrounding organs. had history 2 DM past 2.5 years. diagnosed unregulated DM, diabetic neuropathy. Therapies included larval removal by endoscopy, wound irrigation using antiseptic solutions, irrigation, administration topical antiparasitic ivermectin, insulin therapy. After seven days treatment, discharged hospital resolved controlled blood sugar levels. Conclusion: Awareness factors along proper therapy prominent. together drug effective management myiasis.
